Giving Back to Our Community

Blue Umbrella Waterproofing was built to improve our customers' lives and to support the communities in which we do business. For years, we have donated time and funds to local nonprofits, youth programs, and charities in North New Jersey. We are proud of the waterproofing work we do in our customers' homes and our volunteering work in their neighborhoods. We continue to give back to the communities that have given so much to us.

We've collaborated with the Shapla Foundation, an organization that empowers children through support and education in Bangladesh. We sponsor two children - Tahriya Akter Dola, an intelligent young girl whose potential deserves a chance to shine, and Nahid Hashan Tanvir, a wonderful young boy working diligently to continue his education.

Steve, the owner of Blue Umbrella, and Tony, one of our top basement inspectors, volunteered at a Special Olympics bowling event in partnership with the Knights of Columbus. They helped coordinate the competition, cheer on athletes, and hand out medals. It was a wonderful experience and an event we were proud to be a part of.

I recently had a sump pump installed by Blue Umbrella, and I couldn’t be more impressed with their service! From start to finish, they were professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. They arrived on time, explained the installation process clearly, and worked diligently to get the job done right.The team was respectful of my home, leaving the workspace clean after the installation. The owner Steve came by multiple times to ensure everything was going smoothly. Most importantly, the sump pump is working perfectly, giving me peace of mind knowing my basement is protected from water damage. We recently hired Blue Umbrella to redo our basement waterproofing after finding evidence of water damage in our new home. We met with Tony for the initial inspection. Unlike other companies, he wasn't pushy and explained what they would do, and more importantly, why. We really appreciated the educational aspect of it and ended up choosing them.The crew that did the work arrived on time. They somehow managed to dig a french drain and install our new sump pump with battery backup in a single day! They were a very well oiled machine - they clearly knew what they were doing, did it fast, and cleaned up after themselves.We're confident that our basement won't flood and are very happy that we went with Blue Umbrella. We used Blue Umbrella to update our basement waterproofing following major plumbing updates to our sewer & water main lines. Our initial bid & inspection were provided by Marvin, who I cannot say enough positive things about. He is such a great person -- extremely knowledgeable, authentic and honest. He also took the time to help me make sense of other bids we had gotten for the waterproofing job and to understand what solutions made the most sense for our basement. In the end, we decided to go with Blue Umbrella. Not only did they offer a far more competitive price point for the overall job (which included replacing a poorly installed sump pump that our plumber put in & a brand new French drain installation) -- but, also included in our bid were the leader line installation, moisture barrier installation and a new dehumidifier installation. Our project managers (Wilson & Diego) were extremely knowledgeable & led a great crew of workers, who were all highly efficient, hard working & courteous. Our job took 2 days, and both days the crew left our job site immaculate. They even took the time to backfill the trench left behind by the plumbing company, because the dirt had settled quite a bit, and this, without even being asked to do so. This entire team went above & beyond for our project, from owner (Steve), to supervisor (Marvin), to Wilson and the entire work crew. These guys were all wonderful! Best of all, their work comes with a Lifetime Warranty certificate, which can be transferred should we ever sell this home. I highly recommend Blue Umbrella. You won't be disappointed with their professionalism, their authenticity, or their superior work. Thanks so much!

We consulted with 5 different companies and Blue Umbrella was our pick after hearing everyone out and doing our own research. I could not be happier with our decision. Blue Umbrella has excellent service, good warranties, and most importantly, an excellent top-of-the-line system. The job was completed in one day and done very professionally.Tony helped us from the start and helped us understand the process very well. Steve, the owner, came to the job site and made himself available to us for anything even after the job was done. Robin, the foreman, was very knowledgeable and stopped to answer any questions we had. All guys were amazing and the experience was great.Coming back to the system it self, I feel confident our basement is in a better place and have peace of mind. The team at Blue Umbrella was fantastic from start to finish. We all worry about our homes and who we choose to do work, especially when it comes to big projects like these. Tony, Steve and the entire team were fantastic.It started with Tony, coming to my house and giving me all the information I needed to understand what was happening and how to fix it.I got busy, and they did a great job following up. Not being pushy at all, just checking in. When I finally had time to schedule the work, they were able to accommodate my schedule.On the day of the project, they arrived on time, were neat, and cleaned up everything when they were done. The process was quick and easy and I feel confident that this will solve my water problems.Don't waste your time getting 3-4 quotes... These folks are great and are worth every penny.

From beginning to end, I had a great experience with Blue Umbrella. Marvin was very thorough during his initial visit. Both Marvin and Steve stopped by a few times during the installation to make sure everything went as planned. The workers were great as well. All our belongings were covered in plastic and everything was clean and reinstalled when the job was complete. We just had some heavy rain and the basement is nice and dry. Thank you.

Blue Umbrella fixed a large horizontal crack in my home’s foundation (25-foot long, 3/8” wide). They installed a terrific “Fortress” system consisting of super-strong vertical straps attached with super-strong epoxy, then anchored super-securely at the top and bottom. (The Fortress system is much stronger than competing strap systems.) My wall is even stronger now than when it was built. And the job comes with a lifetime warranty (material and labor) that is transferable to a future homeowner! Blue Umbrella’s owner Steve Karlik oversaw the project closely and went to great lengths to make sure the job met the standards of all involved: me, the manufacturer Fortress, and Steve himself. Steve has extraordinarily high standards for work quality and customer satisfaction. I am very pleased, and I highly recommend Blue Umbrella for foundation repairs.

I have never experienced the level of customer care, and expediency, that I have with Blue Umbrella.From when I asked for a quote to when the job was done was a total of two weeks. Tony was incredible with explaining why their approach made the most sense for me and the lifetime home guarantee made me so much more comfortable.They left the basement and yard incredibly clean, they paid attention to the little stuff.My favorite part, during the workers lunch break, they blew the leaves off of the yard so my boys could keep playing soccer, and even kicked the ball around with them.While I will never need their services again, that is possibly the best recommendation I can give. My home is safe, my family is safe, I have peace of mind, and I appreciate how well Blue Umbrella accomplished everything while providing a great customer experience.

Update: After initially giving Blue Umbrella a four-star rating, the owner, Steve, personally reached out and stopped by to address my concerns. He fixed the grommets on the sump pump lids, ensuring the system is airtight to prevent radon leakage. Steve even went the extra mile by checking and fixing loose connections in the Radon system, which wasn't his responsibility, and he's also helping me with improving the air quality in my home. I’m incredibly impressed with Steve’s dedication and how he went above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction. I'm happy that I chose blue umbrella to fix my basement water issues, after interviewed 4 vendors.Everyone I encountered has been perfect and professional.From Marvin who gave me fact-based educational solution analysis and honest suggestions, to the 3 members work crew who were super experienced and handled the work beautifully.I had one-wall, two-window drains and a sump pump installed. The work started at 9am and finished before 4pm.The work crew definitely knew what they are doing and I can feel the craftsmanship spirit.They even helped to remove the dryer, not to mention covered everything before the work, and cleaned all the work areas (inside and outside) afterward.(It turned out mold already appears on the lower part of the wall, I'm so glad I've decided to fix the problem before it's too late)

Absolutely amazing from the first phone call to the last this business is run by individuals who care! When you call, you speak to the knowledgeable owner Steve. Tony (the project manager) made an appointment with me and took the time to explain the whole process to me, he even went as far to explain the differences between their drainage system and other companies. They kept me up to date and informed the day of install, with the owner even showing up on sight to introduce himself and make sure everything was running smoothly. As a realtor I meet a lot of different venders in this business that my clients use, but from now on I will ONLY recommend them. Blue Umbrella delivers a service and experience that the totally unmatched. 10 out of 10!

We had the best experience of getting French drains from start to finish. Jim was very personable and explained every detail of a French drain and how it works (which is nice to know). His presentation was very informative to make sure we made the right choice. The crew that came over to do the job was excellent. Steve the owner came by after to check the basement just to make sure the best job was done. Steve made sure they went above and beyond with cleaning up the aftermath. Steve then installed the dehumidifier and made sure we knew how to clean the filters. This company makes sure you are all set as opposed to installing and leaving. Highly recommend.

I recently had Blue Umbrella Waterproofing take on the monumental task of waterproofing my basement, and let me tell you, they did an extraordinary job! Before they came along, my basement had turned into an indoor pool every time it rained. But now? Not a drop of water, not a hint of mold—just a perfectly dry basement.I'll admit, I was a bit nervous when I saw them practically taking my entire basement apart. But, as it turns out, it was all for good reason. They were quick, efficient, and incredibly professional throughout the process. From start to finish the experience with Blue Umbrella was amazing. Marvin came out exactly as scheduled and not only worked through a solution with me but also gave a really informative presentation. From there he was available for any and all questions. His team came out a few weeks later and did an amazing job. They were prompt and our french drain was put in in under a day! To top it off he brought cookies the day of, customer service unmatched! Blue Umbrella did an excellent job waterproofing my finished basement by installing a French drain sumps and battery backup. The process was well explained by Steve and the work was within schedule and scope. I was very happy that they made the extra effort to place the second sump into a tight closet space, invisible to someone entering the finished basement. Overall the experience was very, very positive.

Blue Umbrella is phenomenal! We started our basement renovation and after demo the contractor shared our current waterproofing system seems to be failing and we should replace it before finishing the basement. They don’t do waterproofing so we researched and contacted a bunch of companies.We landed on 3 companies with 3 different systems to do in-person visits. Blue Umbrella stood out and far exceeded the rest from the initial inquiry. They showed up prepared with a video explaining their process, why basements need waterproofing, the actual product they will install and those they remove from homes and explained the pros and cons of the systems. None of the other companies educated us on waterproofing at all. Blue Umbrella did.We ended up going with the full waterproofing offerings including: French drain, 2 sump pumps (we had these already with our old system), battery backup, humidifier and vapor barrier (these were new additions). We have had heavy rains since the system has been installed and there has been no water intrusion in the basement. Plus it doesn’t smell musty and damp as it did with the previous system.I will note that the owner Steve is amazing. He’s in contact with you throughout the entire process. He treats his workers very kind and is at the job site every day.

Tony and his team at Blue Umbrella Waterproofing did an awesome job with my basement. This company definitely knows the ins and outs of basement waterproofing. They had no problem answering every question that I had as it was a big project to have completed. BUW made my 150+ year old basement usable and dry! They were always on time, efficient in their work, and the team made sure there was nothing left behind. They also minimized dust and noise throughout the house while they were working. After meeting with 3 different waterproofing companies, we chose Blue Umbrella for a full french drain and sump pump installation. We couldn't be more pleased with our choice! We had an existing french drain system that was failing due to iron ochre so it was important to us that the company we hired fully understood this issue. From the beginning, Marvin and Steve (the owner) were great to work with. They were both very professional and very responsive. They answered all our questions and walked us through exactly how they would complete the work which made us feel extremely comfortable. On the day of the install, the foreman, Jose, and his team did a wonderful job. They completed the work in one day and left our basement cleaner than when they had started! They also provided us with 3 cleanouts for the drain and instructions on how to maintain it so we would not experience the same issues as with our old drain. Both Steve and Marvin were also present on the day of installation and Marvin stopped by after the work was completed to make sure that there were no issues and that we were satisfied with the work that was completed. It has been 2.5 weeks and we are thrilled that our basement is dry and that the sump pump is so quiet. We would not hesitate to recommend Blue Umbrella to anyone looking for a waterproofing company.

From the beginning of the project until the very end which included an immaculate clean up, every step of the process that was explained during the free estimate visit was checked off. Blue Umbrella Waterproofing came with a 5 star rating and they did not disappoint! Steve and Luis thoroughly assessed and explained the work that needed to be done to stop my basement from flooding. Their crew started the job on time and worked efficiently and cleanly. But, most importantly, the system they installed works to perfection! Over the last two years, the Northeast has experienced a lot more rain than usual. And this kind of rain has been causing the ground to get quickly saturated and water would seep through the sides of my house's foundation onto the basement floor. However, during the latest rain storms, Blue Umbrella's water management system has kept my basement completely dry! I'm so glad that I chose Blue Umbrella Waterproofing!

With the installation just completed a few days ago, the overall experience was very good. The work started on-time and ended on-time. The workers were very polite and made adjustments as needed to varying conditions. The clean-up was excellent. The concrete work is very good. There was no dust or residual dirt. One minor point: The sump pump configuration required parts that were not on hand. The standard configuration that is used is not flexible, and more attention should be paid to this. Otherwise, the price is right, the work is very professional, and the experience was very good.

I had four waterproofing companies come to give me estimates and describe the work that they were proposing to do. One company proposed to only do a partial waterproofing job. This would have been much cheaper but only part of problem would be solved. One firm had a very polished presentation but I didn’t like the system they were going to install. The other two companies were close in price and comparable in work to be done. Of these two companies I chose Blue Umbrella based on Tony’s excellent presentation and Steve’s involvement from the start.The work was started on time and completed sooner than promised. The workers and foremen were careful not to make more of a mess than was necessary. They put clean tarps on our wood floors and carefully covered all our belongings to keep them clean. The basement mostly finished with plasterboards walls and carpeted floor.I am very satisfied with the quality of work done and do not hesitate to recommend them if you need basements waterproofing!

While other contractors steered us in the wrong direction, Steve and team were honest, fair, and most importantly correct. After watching several basement waterproofing videos on YouTube, I decided to search for local companies that used the French drain system that came most recommended instead of the system that I saw most often being replaced. I contacted Blue Umbrella for a free inspection on a Saturday morning and heard back from them immediately. Tony came out to do the inspection and he was very kind and knowledgeable. He had samples and a slide presentation that answered all of my concerns. I had met with other companies and they do not compare with the professionalism provided by Tony, Steve and the Blue Umbrella crew. After the inspection I was given a detailed estimate and a timeline for the work to be done. Upon signing the contract I was scheduled for the job and the work was completed within the time frame I was given. Both Tony and Steve were present on the day of installation and that’s not something you see very often. Blue Umbrella did a fantastic job installing a sump pump and interior french drain system in my house. Tony did a great job explaining the project to me during our initial conversation. The crew that came over was able to install the perimeter pipes, dig out a new sump pit, and install the sump all in one day, which was a huge plus. I had other places tell me it would take up to a week. And the final product looks great. Not only were they efficient with their time but they were also thorough. At one point the owner even stopped by and had the team fix a minor issue with my Bilco steps while they had it removed to get underneath. Somehow they even managed to thoroughly clean up the downstairs and yard before nightfall.

Steve's estimate was mid priced and better than some other companies in the area. We are very happy with the work that was done and with Steve himself. We recently purchased a home, there was a very heavy musty smell in the basement and we wanted to have a battery powered back up for the sump pump, since our town seems to loose power from time to time so we decided to waterproof the basement and install a back up for the sump pump avoid any potential issues. Steve and his crew showed up right on time ready to go the day of the job, no messing around right to it. We had a decent sized French drain system installed in our basement. Before lunch the system was halfway complete, these guys work like a well oiled machine. By the time the job was completed I can honestly say the basement and garage were cleaner then before Blue Umbrella came in to do the work. We recently purchased a home, and mold was found due to moisture in the basement. After the mold issue was resolved, we decided to waterproof the basement to avoid further issues. Blue Umbrella was highly recommended. They did a great job. They installed 2 heavy duty 1/2 horsepower sump pumps, 2 emergency battery backup sump pumps with built in high water alarms, 1 heavy duty Santa Fe dehumidifier which removes up to 70 pints a day of water from the air, and installed 14mil vapor barrier on exterior walls, stops moisture penetration, lifetime warranty. I was unaware of how much work is involved to waterproof a basement. They did a lot of work which would take another page to list everything they did! Their price was fair, and it was worth every penny for our own peace of mind! We moved into our house about a year ago. The basement had one sump pump, but the water table in our area is high so we were getting a lot of moisture and sediment on the walls, as well as some small wet spots on the concrete floor. We would like to be able to finish the basement in the not too distant future and even the little bit of water that we were getting would have prevented us from moving forward with any additional improvements to the basement. It also helped attract spiders and kept us from wanting to go down there at all. We got quotes from Steve and one other waterproofer in the area, both of whom were recommended by a very reputable local water-remediation guy. Both companies had similar methods, but used different products/systems. While I felt both quotes were reasonable, the Blue Umbrella quote was slightly lower. But it was more than price that led my decision. My wife and I both liked the focus on keeping everything very clean, hanging tarps to keep dust from moving upstairs, using fans to pull dust outside, etc. Additionally, the system that Blue Umbrella uses is the industry standard and I felt more secure. The day that the team came to install the French drain, they were very efficient and kept me informed the entire time. Once they had opened up the floor, they brought me down to look at the footer and I could see the amount of water that was sitting under the house. It was definitely more than I expected. We have a decent sized basement, and there were a lot of obstacles to work around, but the team completed the job in a single day. The concrete finishing looks great…probably better than the concrete that was there before. The entire system is sealed up and we now have two sump pumps clearing the water out of the house. It has been a little over a month since it was installed, and every time I go down to the basement I notice that the floor is completely dry all around and the air just seems drier. I am currently monitoring the humidity levels to verify if my old dehumidifier is working properly, but it already feels better. I would recommend Steve and the guys at Blue Umbrella to anyone I know. The team was courteous and professional, and they did a great job, leaving me with a really great finished product. The team was top notch and Steve is very trustworthy. He’s honest with you right from the start and keeps you in the loop throughout the process. Great guy, great team, great company, great job!

They came same day I called to look at the problem and recommended that I get French drains. Also recommended to get a drain running across the basement floor where most of the water was entering from. They came a few days later and installed it in no time. Excellent company to work with.Steve thoroughly reviewed the seepage problem were having in our basement before recommending a solution.He explained every step of the work that would be done and quoted us a very reasonable price. We scheduled the job for 9:00 am on a Saturday - Steve’s crew arrived at 8:45 am.They were professional, courteous & and extremely concerned about keeping our house & basement clean while they did their work. The new French drain system took about 5 hours to install and when Steve’s guys left you could not tell that they were working in our basement - no dirt or dust left anywhere.If you have a wet or damp basement problem, I highly recommend Steve at Blue Umbrella Waterproofing to do the job. I’ve got my french drain with pump installed about 10 months ago. I highly recommend Steve, he’s great professional; he explained everything in detail, there was no unexplained items, nor extra charges later on . Everything was perfectly done on schedule as promised, in one or two days, basement and entire work area left cleaner than before. The price was very reasonable as well. My basement didn’t have one drop of water on floor nor walls since then .
